How do I sign up for a show?

Every year WQRI participates in the RWU club fair in mid-September. We set up a table with information regarding our first meeting for RWU undergraduate students who are interested in joining. To sign up for a show, you must show up to this meeting and fill out an application to be a DJ. You can expect to be interviewed and possibly asked to perform a talk break. From there the WQRI E-board will select the DJs for the semester based upon the number of timeslots available.

If you are interested in being a DJ but have missed this meeting, you should contact the Program Director for further information.

Also, if you are not an RWU undergraduate student, you may still sign up for a show! Members of the Bristol Community, RWU Faculty/Staff, and students of the RWU Law School are welcome to host shows as well! If interested, please contact the Program Director. However, please keep in mind that shows are offered to RWU undergraduates first as it is their student activities fee that makes up the WQRI budget.

I want to join WQRI, but I don't want to be a DJ, what else can I do?

There are lots of ways you can get involved with WQRI without being a DJ. WQRI has several committees where you can work behind the scenes and get involved! To join a committee, simply contact the respective director or the General Manager!

Promotions Committee
The promotions committee's main goal is to increase community awareness of WQRI through promotional events, flyers, and giveaways.

Live Committee
The live committee keeps a calendar of upcoming live events and schedules who will work each event. This committee DJs events such as school dances, socials, and quad events.

Music Committee
The music committee is in charge of reviewing all new CDs that come through the station and screening them for tracks that cannot be played on air. They also update the music libraries and compile a "hot list" to let DJs know what the newest and greatest albums out are.

Systems Administration Committee
The systems administration committee is in charge of maintaining all of the techinical equipment owned by the station and upgrading equipment when necessary. They are also in charge of updating the WQRI website.

Production Committee
The production committee creates sweepers for shows, or other clubs and orgs. Sweepers are short clips that DJs play in between songs and talk breaks that let the listener know what station they are listening to or promote events, shows, etc. The production committee also edits interviews, news bites, etc.

Programming Committee
The programming committee works with the Program Director to improve the overall sound of the station.

News Committee
The news committee is in charge of providing DJs with updated news, PSAs, weather, etc. to read on air.

How much of a time commitment is WQRI?

DJs are required to do a 2 hour show once a week. In addition to this, they must join one committee which typically meets for an hour a week. The committees also meet to do occasional events, etc. Finally, DJs are required to work one live event and broadcast one Providence Bruins game per year.

WQRI staff who are not DJs must meet the same requirements as DJs minus the 2 hour weekly show.

E-board members are also required to attend weekly e-board meetings for an hour each week. They also must do 3 office hours per week on top of their DJ/staff requirements.

Being involved with WQRI is all what you make of it. Reaching beyond the bare minimum is highly suggested!

How do I request the live unit for an event?

In order to use the Live Unit, you must come into the WQRI office to pick up a live request form, or download it here, fill it out, and then send it to the Live Director at livedirector_wqri@hawks.rwu.edu or drop it off at the WQRI office.

On the form, you must fill out the appropriate spaces, such as the name of the club or organization, the contact name and number, the event type, where and when the event will be located, and if you have a specific type of music you want played you can do that as well. The price of your event can be determined by the table shown at the bottom of the request form.
